Fluent.Inc and Debian: Now that would be nice
June 16th, 2006 by Hanno Zulla
One of our clients uses Fluent, a simulation software used by engineers that helps planning things like wind farms, power plants and TV studio heat distribution. Fascinating. We help this client when they have problems with their Linux workstations.
Since two years, I try to get a semi-official response from Fluent.Inc about when they plan to support Debian or Ubuntu, since they only support Redhat and Suse and deny support for those using non-certified platforms.
I must admit that this is just a personal preference: Debian is easier to support and easier to adminstrate, we run all of our Linux servers on Debian and we feel most comfortable there with its rock-stable distribution. We did use Suse in the past and each time we did, Suse’s software updates broke existing installations.
By now I have heard that there are several others using Debian for their Fluent. But it would be really nice if they added it to their list of supported platforms.
(Oh, and I tried to use it on Ubuntu yesterday. Didn’t work.)
